What To Do In Between Waxes

For those who have found themselves investing in their skin through routine waxing sessions, you may have come to a point where you’re not sure what to do as your body develops new hair growth as part of your natural hair growth cycle.

Our goal today is to share our best tips and tricks to keep your skin looking its best while also making sure you feel confident between waxing sessions. These post-wax care tips will have you on the path to health, happy skin!

Never shave in between waxing appointments!

To begin, let’s start with the most important rule of waxing: never shave between your waxing appointments! While most of you have probably heard this repeated a number of times, for those who haven't, let’s take a moment to discuss why this step is so important.

Hair needs to regrow to be properly waxed again

On the practical side of things, shaving your hair between your wax appointments doesn't allow for the appropriate hair growth. If you’re thinking “Well, that’s the point! I don't want my hair to grow or be visible,” it doesn't exactly work like that.

Sure, it’s understandable that most of us have become acclimated with the instant gratification that shaving provides, but waxing is a bit different. With the benefits of smoother skin and longer lasting results comes the requirement of at least a quarter inch of hair growth in order for waxing to be effective.

Get all your hair on the same growth cycle with waxing

Another benefit to allowing regrowth prior to your next waxing appointment is the synchronization element. If you were to shave between sessions, each follicle would be on a separate part of their individual growth cycles. Why is this important, you ask? The answer is fairly simple: the longer lasting results of waxing occur because your new hair growth, whether it be pubic hair or leg hairs, are allowed to enter the same growth cycle after several sessions. If all of your hairs enter the growth stage at the same time, managing regrowth becomes much easier to do.

Stick with your skincare routine to keep ingrown hair at bay

It goes without saying that no one enjoys the discomfort of ingrown hairs. While waxing does a great job at reducing the likelihood of ingrown hairs (compared to shaving) it is still important to maintain a constant skincare routine for your waxed areas so that you mitigate any and all chances for those pesky red bumps.

Exfoliate 2-3 times a week

One of our most effective recommendations is consistent exfoliation. And yes, that does include your bikini wax and brazilian wax areas. Not only does exfoliating remove dead skin cells and dirt from the epidermis, leaving a clear path for new growth, it also provides the best possible surface for wax to adhere to during your waxing appointment.

For the best possible wax results, as well as healthy smooth skin free of bumps and blemishes, we recommend exfoliating around two to three times a week with at least 2 days between exfoliating and your next wax appointment.

Moisturize your skin daily

In addition to exfoliation, your skin will always need to stay hydrated – even when you’re not regularly getting waxed. Hydration, inside and out, is an integral part of maintaining healthy, happy skin.

For the best results, apply moisturizer daily. Begin in the morning and ensure that you reapply as needed – being extra mindful to reapply following a shower or other activities where you’re  exposed to water. Lastly, continue to hydrate from within by consuming a healthy amount of water daily.

Book consistent waxing appointments for best results

In the end, being consistent is going to make all the difference in your hair removal journey. All of the post wax care will not be nearly as effective if routine waxing is not sustained. Plus, there are actually a few benefits to keeping a regular waxing schedule that you may not have realized!

Here’s our favorite benefits:

Finer, sparser hair regrowth

Did you know that consistent waxing creates finer, sparser hair regrowth? If not, we’re happy to elaborate! During a waxing session, your new hair growth is quickly pulled from your hair follicle, resulting in some minor damage of the follicle. As a result, any new growth from a damaged follicle will be sparse and fine – making your body hair less noticeable.

An easier waxing experience with repeat sessions

Another benefit to regular waxes is that each repeated session gets easier. You build a tolerance to discomfort and the amount of time between each session will lengthen with regularity.
